VORTEX Wind Speed Sensor

Description

 

The VORTEX anemometer is a rugged wind sensor which can handle speeds from 5 to over 125 mph. Reed switch/magnet provides one pulse per rotation. Comes with 8m of exterior grade cable. Available as sensor only or sensor plus battery powered LCD display. The VORTEX wind sensor is great for do-it-yourself projects, replacement, or additional parts. Mounting pole not included.

 

Models

 

 

The Vortex Wind Sensor is a rugged, proven anemometer. Supplied without any electronics, the Vortex sensor is ideal for "do-it-yourself" projects of all kinds.

The Vortex Wind Sensor includes the following major items:

  • a high quality 3-cup rotor pressed on a stainless steel shaft

  • a rugged Delrin body with bronze and Rulon bushings
  • a flat aluminum mounting bracket with 2 holes
  • reed switch and magnet providing one pulse per rotation
  • 8m of exterior grade wire (user can extend)

Converting pulses to wind speed is simple using the following formula:

2.5 mph per Hz (1 Hz = 1 pulse/second)

Accuracy - 0.5 mph from 4 to 10 mph, +/-4% from 10 to 50 mph

  • Dual Display simutaneously shows CURRENT SPEED (top display)plus: MAX, AVERAGE, KM/MILES, or several other (bicycle-related) functions.
  • Select mph or km/h
  • Water-resistant (not waterproof)
  • Approximately 1Hz (1 second) update rate
  • Battery life 1 to 3 years of intermittent, occasional use.
  • Provided with high strength self-adhesive Velcro pads for mounting the display

Includes quality Vortex Wind Sensor, wire, COM port cable (USB adapter can be used), and software - a complete kit that is very easy to set up and use. The software can display wind speed data and can log data to an Excel compatible file.

WindWorks Logger system for the PC and MAC

A USB based system for connection to the Vortex wind speed sensor and eVane wind direction sensor. Consists or a USB DAQ unit and software for Windows or MAC.

Software has a live display of wind speed and direction and also has data logging capabilities.

LabJack U12 Weather Station

The LabJack U12 is a USB based general purpose data acquisition and control device . It comes with a free copy of DAQFactory Express software, which allows the user to create custom screens, has data logging and simple control scripts.

It forms an ideal core for a home-grown weather station system using the Vortex wind speed sensor, the eVane wind direction sensor and the EI1050 Digital Temperature/Humidity Probe. Has plenty of extra analogue inputs for other sensors and control outputs.
