Using ProfiLab

 

ProfiLab Expert is a new low cost graphical programming software package for data acquisition and control applications. No programming experience is needed. Programs are written by selecting a function block from a library, placing it on the work area and then connecting it to other function blocks using wires.

Professional user panels can be designed with custom controls such as LED displays, button and switches, charts meters etc, and the whole program can be compiled into a stand-alone executable file, with no run-time penalties.

 

Function Block Library

 
The library offers a huge number of components that can be combined to complex applications. The library is organised in groups

Basically there are four types of components:

  • Control components - only appear in the circuit. They carry out any kind of calculation with the input values and return the result at the outputs to the circuit.

    • Logic Components - Gates, Timers/pulse generators, Counters, complex logic components - shift registers, encoders etc
    • Analogue Functions - Amplifiers, Look-up table, Trigger, Sample and hold, Comparator, mean Value, Signal Generator, Limiter, Multiplexer/demultiplexer
    • Miscellaneous components - Frequency counter, DLL-Import, Delay, Power-on-reset, Random, Sound module, Execute, Data recorder, AudioWave, Sampler, Front panel activate, File – Read bytes, File – Write bytes
  • Front panel elements - appear in the circuit as well as on the front panel. Front panel elements can be seen as interface between the circuit and the user.

    • Displays - LED, DUO-LED, Plastic lamp, LED-bar, Luminous row, Numeric display, Text display, HEX display, 7 segment display, Counter, Meter, Table, Y(t)-plotter, XY-plotter, 2-Channel-Scope, Logic analyser, Slide projector
    • Control Elements - Switch / Push button, Potentiometer, digital, Slider, digital, HEX selector, ASCII-Input, Adjustor, analogue (Potentiometer), Adjustor, analogue (Slider), Numeric input, Switch/Push button (2 inputs/2 outputs)

  • Hardware components - transmit their input values to the hardware device and make received values from the hardware device available for the circuit at their outputs.

    • Relay Cards
    • Serial port/ printer port I/O
    • Multimeters
    • PC Cards/ USB I/O (LabJack U12)

  • Macros are a combination of all kinds of components

 

Run Time

 
Your program can be tested by selecting RUN. In run mode, it is possible to debug your program by examining the connections between the function blocks, and the program execution rate is also shown.

When you are happy with your program, you can compile it into a stand alone executable file. The compiled project is executable, without having the ProfiLab software installed on the destination system. The compiled project will only show the front panel and start the project immediately when the compiled project is executed. The project is no longer editable.

You may distribute compiled ProfiLab applications freely. With the compiler option ProfiLab has become a complete development platform for control and measurement applications.
