What
is Bluetooth? |
|
|
|
Bluetooth
is a radio standard that was developed to allow wireless connections
between different devices in the short range area. Many notebooks,
PDAs and cellular phones do have integrated bluetooth capabilities.
Today, bluetooth is well established in the telecommunications market
and is now entering new application areas like medical- and vehicle
technology, household- and office-devices, factory automation and
facility management. Bluetooth represents a quick and easy solution
to wireless data acquisition and control.

Description |
|
|
The
MFC-4422 is a multifunction IO-board, that allows wireless
connections from PC, PDA or mobile phone by means of an integrated
bluetooth radio. Transmission ranges of up to 100m can be reached
(line of sight).
The
board is designed for professional integration in industrial
machinery, office- or household devices. DIN-rail housings are
available, to use the MFC as a stand-alone controller.
The
board provides 2 opto-isolated and 2 TTL inputs. These inputs can be
used as counter inputs. Counter-states and actual frequencies can be
read out wirelessly, which makes it most suitable for metering
applications like electricity, gas, water meters.
Digital
outputs comprise 2 Relays and 2 TTL outputs. Digital Outputs can be
switched remotely. A time off -delay may be parameterized to switch
off the outputs when connection to the board is lost.
The
MFC-4422-provides 2 analogue outputs. Each of those outputs are
provided as both a voltage signal in the range of 0-5 VDC and as
pulse-width modulated TTL (PWM) signal. There are also 2 0-5V
analogue inputs.

On/Off
Control
The
MFC-4422 provides 2 independent on/off controllers. Each controller
consists of one analogue input and one relay output. The actual
output of the plant is captured by the analog input and compared with
the defined switching points.
PID
Control
The
MFC-4422 provides 2 independent PID controllers. Each controller
consists of one analogue input and one analog output. The actual
output of the plant is captured by the analog input an processed by a
PID-algorithm. The controller then generates an output signal at the
analogue output. PID parameters are user adjustable.
Connection
The
board is addressed by means of a simple ASCII instruction-set, which
can be employed with any common programming language. No specific
bluetooth-programming knowledge is required. Messages between board
and PC/PDA are exchanged in plain text. The bluetooth-connection is
established over a so called virtual com-port. Programming of a
virtual com port is identical to programming a standard hardware
serial interface. Visual-basic examples for PC and PDA are delivered
on a CD together with the board. Your PC or PDA has to have a
bluetooth interface in order to be able to connect with the board.

Software |
|
The
MFC-4422 is supplied with a FREE Windows and PDA utilitys -
WCI-software . With the WCI-software, you are able to manage all
board parameters and to read and write to the different inputs and
outputs. Also includes a chart recorder style display for analogue
inputs and data logging capabilities. Data is logged to a Excel
compatible data file.
Also
supplied with an ActiveX component and Windows and PDA VB
programming examples.
