LogBox-DA Voltage/Counter Datalogger

Description

A low-cost self-contained weatherproof stand alone datalogger which accurately record data in non-volatile memory. The LogBox-DA has a sinlge universal analogue and a single pulse counter input. Setup and data retrieval is done in a PC via an infrared interface through the use of LOG CHART, a Windows compatible software which plots and prints graphs, lists loggings and exports data to spreadsheets. Special mathematical functions can be programmed. Data can also be retrieved using a Palm PDA.

Description

The LogBox-DA has a single pulse counter and a single analogue input. Suitable for connection to flow meters, gas/electricity/water metes and other pulse-output devices. Sealed to IP67 for full weather proofing.

The LogBox is powered fom an internal 3.6V battery.

Setup and data retrieval is done in a PC via an infrared interface through the use of LogChart-II, a Windows compatible software package.

In addition to LogBox configuration, LogChart-II can be used to retrieve data and for data presentation in table or chart formats. Data can be printed or exported to Spreadsheets such as Excel. Special mathematical functions can be programmed.

Some novel features of the LogBox include;

  • Data capture modes - Data can be acquired via different capture modes:

    • Single - the logger records the instantaneous value at each log rate interval

    • Mean - the mean of ten measurements within the time interval is storedm
    • Minimum or maximum - the minimum or maximum values are stored

  • Data Logging can be started or stopped in various ways;

    • LogBox pushbutton

    • External contact closure
    • Pre-set date and time
    • Immediately
    • Palm PDA Command

LogChart Software

The LogBox is configured using the included LogChart software. Data is transmitted to the LogBox through an Infrared wand connected to the PC's RS232 or USB port. The Parameter Configuration window in LogChart lets you configure the following parameters:

  • Logging session title

  • Channel setup - name, type, limits, scaling
  • start log options - immediatley or timed
  • log rate
  • logging options - stop when full or roll-over

After the logging session is complete, data can then be downloaded again by LogChart and displayed in table and chart formats. Data files can then be saved as ASCII text files for importation into common Spreadsheets. It is even to monitor data in real-time.

Palm PDA Users

Most of the functionality of the LogChart II is available for the PDA Palm running the LogChart PalmOS software. The program is supplied with the logger. The program is installed on the Palmtop through a HotSync process (data synchronization between a Palmtop and a PC).

Starting the LogChart PalmOS application will display the Recorded Data screen on the Palm where it is possible to access the LogBox configuration to change settings and collect data, as well as to access collected data.

HotSync of data stored in a PDA to a PC is performed through a conduit installed together with the LogChart Palm-OS. The conduit converts the data collected by the LogChart Palm-OS to a file compatible with the LogChart-II software.
