FieldLogger 8-Channel Datalogger/RTU

Description

The Field Logger is versatile data acquisition unit capable of stand-alone operation, where data is written to internal non-volatile memory (FL-128k), or it can be used as a MODBUS RTU (FL-RTU) as part of a SCADA system. Its universal input channels accept a large variety of sensors and standard signals.

Configuration

The Field Logger is versatile data acquisition unit capable of stand-alone operation, where data is written to internal non-volatile memory. Input channels are attached via screw terminals. The Filedlogger also has 2 alarm relay channels which can be activated when any channel enters a programmed alarm condition.

The Fieldlogger is setup by the included Configurator software. The Fieldlogger has a RS485 interface, and a connection from the PC's RS232 port must be made using a RS232 to RS485 converter.

Channel setup

the channel setup screen allows you configure the following parameters;

  • Logging session Title

  • Channel Names and input type
  • Scale
  • Engineering units
  • Channel alarm setup and alarm relay outputs

Acquisitions

The Acquisition tab is only available with the Fieldlogger version with internal memory.

This page contains the parameters needed for recording data in the Field Logger internal memory. These parameters are:

  • Start Logging time

  • Stop Logging time.
  • Base Interval Between Loggings
  • Interval Multipliers for the channels (set individually for each channel)

The base interval can be specified from 0.2s to many hours and is common to all channels. The interval multiplier, however, can be configured individually for each channel, allowing distinct logging rates among channels. For example, for a base interval of 10s, a multiplier 1 will cause a new sample to be recorded every 10s; for a multiplier equal to 6, the channel will be recorded once every minute. Using the multipliers, the user can manage the memory usage according to the importance of each input variable.

FieldChart Software

The RTU Version does not contain any internal memory, but transmits channel data using the MODBUS protocol. The Filedlogger RTU can be used with any common SCADA software package that supports MODBUS, or it can form a complete data acquisition system using the Fieldlchart software.

The main module collects data to the PC, displays the data in both digital and graphic formats in batches or in real time and provides trend and historical views. It can zoom in and out, superimpose or link graphs in one screen, print graphs or lists and export to spreadsheets or word processors.

FieldChart will support up to 8 Fieldlogger units simultaneously when connected on line, thus plotting up to 64 analogue channels. HI and LO alarms can be set for each channel and their values will be displayed on the screen whenever an alarm is active.

FieldChart Software 8 Ch FCFC-8 (For 1 Fieldlogger)

FieldChart Software 64 Ch FCFC-64 (For up to 8 Fieldloggers)

USB-i485

User Manual >>

The Fieldlogger has a RS485 interface, and a connection from the PC's must be made using a converter.

The USB-i485 module is a cost-effective way to convert RS485 or RS422 industrial buses to a USB interface. When connected to a PC USB port the USB-i485 module is automatically detected and is installed as a native COM port which is compatible with any existing serial communication application.

Muliple modules can be installed when using USB hubs thus allowing a hassle-free configuration of a multi serial system without any IRQ or DMA configuration.

1500 Vdc isolation between the USB port and RS485/RS422 protects the PC from spykes or possible misconnections in the communication bus
