eNET-232
Ethernet to Serial Converter
|
|
|
|
|
The
eNET range of Ethernet to Serial converters are a simple way of
connecting any serial device, whether RS232 or RS485 to a Ethernet
network. They feature a simple setup procedure, ease of operation and
automatic network recovery. Supplied with Programming examples and
Virtual Serial Port software, to seamlessly add serial ports to your
Network. The eNET-232 has a two serial ports, one RS232 and the other
can be a RS232/422/485 RS485 port.

The
eNET-232 is a dual port Serial to Ethernet converter that can
network-enable your serial devices, such as weigh scales, PLCs, Data
acquisition systems, point of sale, bar code scanners, access control
systems, gas meters, printers - anything!
Connect
it to your network via a standard RJ45 connector, set-up its' IP
address and TCP port number and you are away. With the supplied
Virtual Com port software you can simply communicate with your serial
device as if it were connected to the back of your PC. Programmers
can communicate directly with the eNET-232 using standard TCP/IP protocols.

|

A
pair of eNET-232's can be set up in Client-Server mode where they
will send RS232 data between each other without any PC intervention.

The
eNET-232 is supplied with CVBrowser.exe,
a simple tool to detect and configure the installed e-NET Ethernet
Converter. CVBrowser.exe allows you to set the IP address and TCP/IP
port to suit your Network.

Users
can then use a web-browser to configure the advanced settings of
e-NET hardware such as Baud rate, socket port, serial I/O and etc.

Also
included is VirtualSerialPort
Console
software. VirtualSerialPort Console is a COM port redirection
software application for Win NT, 2000 and XP PC platforms. Its
function is to re-direct customer application data destined for a
local serial (COM) port on a PC. Rather than going out the local
port, the data is transmitted across the Ethernet network using
TCP/IP. The eNET-232 attached to the network receives the data and
presents it on its serial port. Conversely, data into the serial port
of the eNET-232 is sent back to the customer application via the
network to the VirtualSerialPort Console software. The
VirtualSerialPort Console software then presents the data to the
customer application as if it were from a local serial COM port.

One
of the main objectives of the VirtualSerialPort Console software is
to eliminate the need for a customer to modify their application. If
the application knows how to connect to a local serial port, it can
by default talk to a remote serial port on a device server using the
VirtualSerialPort Console software. No understanding of how to
develop networking software is required.
