The eCOV-432 is a 4-port RS232 port and a two RS485 port (total of 6 ports) Serial to Ethernet converter that can network-enable your serial devices, such as weigh scales, PLCs, Data acquisition systems, point of sale, bar code scanners, access control systems, gas meters, printers - anything!

Connect it to your network via a standard RJ45 connector, set-up its' IP address and TCP port number and you are away. With the supplied Virtual Com port software you can simply communicate with your serial device as if it were connected to the back of your PC. Programmers can communicate directly with the eCOV-100 using standard TCP/IP protocols.

A pair of eCOV-432's can be set up in Client-Server mode where they will send RS232 data between each other without any PC intervention.

Software

All converters are supplied with eCOV.exe, a simple tool to detect and configure the installed e-COV Ethernet Converter. eCOV.exe allows you to set the IP address and TCP/IP port to suit your Network.

Users can then use Internet Explorer or other Internet browsers to configure the advanced settings of e-COV hardware such as Baud rate, socket port, serial I/O and etc.

Also included is DeviceComm Manager. DeviceComm Manager is a COM port redirection software application for Win NT, 2000 and XP PC platforms. Its function is to re-direct customer application data destined for a local serial (COM) port on a PC. Rather than going out the local port, the data is transmitted across the Ethernet network using TCP/IP. The eCOV-432 attached to the network receives the data and presents it on its serial port. Conversely, data into the serial port of the eCOV-432 is sent back to the customer application via the network to the DeviceComm Manager. The DeviceComm Manager then presents the data to the customer application as if it were from a local serial COM port.

One of the main objectives of the DeviceComm Manager software is to eliminate the need for a customer to modify his/her application. If the application knows how to connect to a local serial port, it can by default talk to a remote serial port on a device server using the DeviceComm Manager software. No understanding of how to develop networking software is required.

For programmers, the eCOV-432 is supplied with simple VB, C++ and Delphi examples.
