1-Wire®
Weather Station Kit WSI603 contains all needed elements to convert
your PC computer in to a professional Weather Station. It lets you
view the weather outside from the comfort of an armchair, measuring
wind speed, direction and temperature. Easy to assemble and install
with free windows software.

The
1-Wire network protocol was developed by Dallas
Semiconductor/Maxim as a way to
interface to range of small devices, such as digital switches,
sensors and analogue-to-digital converters. Every 1-Wire device
contains a unique identifier preset at the factory. As the name
suggests, the devices are networked together by a single wire that
acts as a physical medium to communicate between a host and a large
number of devices attached along the wire. It is also capable of
powering these devices through the same wire. In practice, a second
wire is actually needed to provide a return to ground and complete
the circuit and most 1-wire units actually use a 4-wire RJ11 or RJ45 cable.

The
1-Wire Weather Station software takes weather station data from a
One-Wire Weather Station. The data includes: temperature, wind speed
and direction and light level. The data is continuously updated at a
specified interval, reflecting any changes in weather conditions. The
data is also stored in a text/log file that users can review. |

Description
of Operation |

The
WSI603 is a re-design of the previous TAI8515 as the main 1-wire
counter chip used in the TAI8515 had become discontinued. The new
design uses a microprocessor to measure wind speed, temperature and
light intensity. The micro can also control 2 LED arrays. The micro
sends wind and temperature data to a 1-wire memory device, a DS2760
which actually forms the 1-wire front end. To access wind and
temperature data, memory location in the DS2760 are read.

The
WSI-603 now uses a RJ45 connectors and standard CAT5 cables. This
improves reliability over the older TAI8515 design. The pin
allocation on the new RJ45 connector is a s follows;
